Mufflers/Exhaust:

Ignition/tuneup:
Ignition systems are high voltage components that should only be handled by a qualified service technician
Tune-ups are a common misconception. Tune-up services were only valid for any vehicle that had adjustable carburation,timing,valves and points type ignitions.
Today's modern vehicles are not adjustable because the vehicles computer does all the adjusting as the vehicle is being operated.
What can we do if we want to maintain a service interval that resembles a tune-up? To start with we need to keep the fuel trim data at a respectable range where the engine will operate at 14-7-1 fuel air ratio. What this means is to keep oxygen sensors in optimal condition and perform fuel air intake cleaning as needed.
To prevent such woes, the O2 sensor can be replaced for preventive maintenance during a tune-up. Unheated 1 or 2 wire wire O2 sensors on 1976 through early 1990s applications should be replaced for preventative maintenance every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Heated 3 and 4-wire O2 sensors on mid-1980s through mid-1990s applications should be changed every 60,000 miles. And on OBDII equipped vehicles (all '96 and newer), the recommended replacement interval is 100,000 miles. A sluggish sensor may not allow the computer to flip-flop the fuel mixture fast enough to keep emissions within acceptable limits. A dead sensor will causes the system to go back into open loop with a fixed, rich fuel mixture. Fuel consumption and emissions go up, and the converter may suffer damage if it overheats.

Fuel Pump Modules:
Fuel pumps are not as simple as they were years ago. Fuel pump modules have a direct engineer design to accommodate and correct issues that earlier year fuel pumps encountered. A fuel pump module constructed to be disposed exteriorly of a vehicle fuel tank carries, as a single unit, an electric motor
fuel pump and a pressure control device which controls the pressure of fuel delivered to an internal combustion engine from the fuel pump. Fuel supplied from the fuel tank to the module is drawn into the fuel pump which increases the pressure of the fuel and then discharges the fuel under pressure from an outlet of the fuel pump which communicates with the pressure control device carried by the module and an outlet of the module which in turn, communicates with the engine. The pressure control device may be either a pressure relief valve, which functions to limit the maximum pressure of the fuel delivered to the engine, or a fuel pressure regulator, such as a bypass pressure regulator, which bypasses to a point upstream of the fuel pump inlet fuel delivered from the fuel pump in excess of the engine's fuel demand. Mounting the pressure control device and fuel pump in a common module reduces the number of fuel lines in the fuel system and avoids the problems associated with return fuel systems which return heated, excess fuel from a hot fuel rail. Desirably, a fuel filter is provided at the fuel pump inlet and a foam shell is also disposed in the fuel pump module to reduce sloshing of the fuel and vibrations in the module and to permit a module to securely carry fuel pumps of different size. Thus, the fuel pump module according to this invention is versatile, compact and readily assembled into a wide variety of fuel systems.
